Player by Player Roster Breakdown - Who's in/out - The Athletic

2020.09.02 21:58 cornbread36 Player by Player Roster Breakdown - Who's in/out - The Athletic

The Giants coaching staff and personnel department spent six hours Saturday discussing their roster. There will be many more hours of deliberation before this Saturday’s 4 p.m. deadline to trim their 81-man roster to 53 players.
Here’s a look at where every player stands with cut day fast approaching:
Quarterbacks (4)
• Daniel Jones: It was jarring to see Jones fumble in Friday’s scrimmage since defensive players couldn’t touch the quarterback. Everyone — Jones included — spent the entire offseason harping on how he needed to improve his ball security. To see a weak fumble the first time he faced anything resembling a game situation this summer was disconcerting. Now, it’s not a cause for full-blown panic. But it’s hard not to wonder if his pocket awareness/ball security issues are going to continue in Year 2.
Overall, it’s been an up-and-down camp for Jones. There have been some impressive throws, particularly on deep balls, and other times where he appears indecisive and forces passes into tight windows. So much hinges on Jones’ development, so it’ll be interesting to see how he responds when the season starts. Roster status: In
• Colt McCoy: McCoy has come exactly as advertised: He’s a capable backup who will provide an experienced sounding board for Jones. Roster status: In
• Cooper Rush: Rush has looked good in camp, which should make the decision to carry him as the third quarterback easier. His knowledge of offensive coordinator Jason Garrett’s system should be an asset in the quarterbacks room. Roster status: Bubble — In
• Alex Tanney: Signing a pair of veteran backups this offseason didn’t bode well for Tanney, who was a favorite of the previous coaching staff. Roster status: Out
Running backs (6)
• Saquon Barkley: Barkley has looked as explosive as ever during camp. He should have a monster season if he stays healthy. Roster status: In
• Dion Lewis: Lewis’ production dipped during his two seasons in Tennessee, but it doesn’t look like the 29-year-old has lost a step. The 5-foot-8, 195-pounder looks as shifty as ever. Don’t be surprised if there are two-minute drives where Lewis is the back due to his blocking and receiving ability. Roster status: In
• Eli Penny: The Patriots always carried a fullback while Judge was in New England. The Cowboys always carried a fullback when Jason Garrett was in Dallas. Penny is the only fullback on the Giants’ roster. He’s in good shape to earn a spot. Roster status: In
• Wayne Gallman: It looked like Gallman was in a battle with undrafted rookie Javon Leake for a roster spot. But Leake was cut 24 hours after Gallman scored two touchdowns in last Friday’s scrimmage. That should lock in Gallman, who has been productive in camp. Roster status: In
• Tavien Feaster: Feaster was signed last week. It’s hard to figure why the Giants kept the plodding 221-pounder over the dynamic Leake. Roster status: Out
• Sandro Platzgummer: Platzgummer was assigned to the Giants as part of the international pathway program. The Austria native doesn’t count against the practice squad roster limit, so the Giants likely will keep him around. Roster status: Out
Wide receivers (10)
• Sterling Shepard: Shepard has been the Giants’ best receiver in camp, constantly getting open with his quickness and sharp routes. The only concern is the concussions that plagued him last season. Roster status: In
• Darius Slayton: Slayton remains the Giants’ top deep threat. His numbers may decline this season just because there won’t be as many targets available if the rest of the Giants’ weapons stay healthy. But Slayton can have a similar impact by making big plays when his number is called. Roster status: In
• Golden Tate: The 32-year-old Tate has a chance to defy Father Time since his game is predicated on finding open spaces and making touch catches. He’s done that as well as ever during camp. The only issue for Tate is that his playing time could be reduced if the Giants deploy more two-receiver sets, which is expected under Garrett. Roster status: In
• Corey Coleman: Coleman has been the most pleasant surprise of camp, showing no ill effects of the torn ACL he suffered on the first day of camp a year ago. He’s solidified his hold on the No. 4 receiver job by consistently getting open on intermediate and deep routes. He also could reprise his role as the kickoff returner. Roster status: In
• David Sills: There’s a crowd of receivers vying for one or two roster spots, and it isn’t easy to separate them. Sills gets a slight edge because of his size (6-foot-3, 211 pounds) and ability to make plays downfield. Roster status: Bubble — In
• Alex Bachman: Bachman has done everything possible to earn a roster spot. He always seems to be open and he catches everything thrown his way. The problem for the 6-foot, 190-pounder is that he’s on a team with two established slot receivers (Tate and Shepard). Bachman seems like the type of player who could bounce around and then break out if he ever finds the right situation. Roster status: Bubble — Out
• C.J. Board: Board is a dark horse for a roster spot. He’s 26 and has bounced around the NFL for the past three years, so he doesn’t have the upside of some of the younger receivers on the bubble. But he caught a pass from Jones in the scrimmage, which shows the coaching staff’s confidence to put him on the field with the starters. Roster status: Bubble — Out
• Austin Mack: Mack has had a solid camp, but he’s fallen behind some of the other bubble receivers recently. He’s an ideal practice squad candidate. Roster status: Bubble — Out
• Binjimen Victor: Victor’s 6-foot-4, 199-pound frame draws attention and he has impressive athleticism. But his game lacks refinement, so the practice squad is his most likely destination. Roster status: Out
• Derrick Dillon: Dillon was touted as a speed demon, but he rarely turned that into plays during camp. Roster status: Out
Tight ends (6)
• Evan Engram: It’s the same story every summer for Engram: If he stays healthy, he’s in for a big season. Engram hasn’t lost a step after undergoing season-ending foot surgery last year. It will be interesting to see if Garrett is the play-caller who finally utilizes Engram’s speed on downfield throws. Roster status: In
• Levine Toilolo: The 6-foot-8, 268-pound Toilolo doesn’t figure to have many catches, but he’ll be a valuable complement to Engram as a blocking tight end. Roster status: In
• Kaden Smith: Smith had a strong finish to last season and remains in the mix despite Engram’s return and Toilolo’s addition. Engram is going to dominate the tight end targets, but Smith provides quality depth. Roster status: In
• Eric Tomlinson: The expectation is that Garrett will use a lot of multi-tight end sets. Therefore, the Giants will need plenty of tight ends on the roster. That should help Tomlinson, who is a strong blocker and has made some nice catches throughout camp. Roster status: Bubble — In
• Garrett Dickerson: Dickerson has had a good camp, but it’s hard to see a path to a roster spot since Engram and Smith are better receivers and Toilolo and Tomlinson are better blockers. Roster status: Out
• Rysen John: John has been sidelined for over a week with a hamstring injury. The fact that the Giants haven’t cut the undrafted rookie could be an indication that they want to keep the 6-foot-7 converted wide receiver around on the practice squad. Roster status: Out
Offensive linemen (13)
• Andrew Thomas: Nate Solder’s opt out thrust Thomas into the starting left tackle job. The No. 4 pick in the draft has predictably had some struggles, particularly in last Friday’s scrimmage, but Thomas hasn’t looked overmatched in camp. The Giants are likely going to endure some growing pains with a rookie protecting Jones’ blind side. Roster status: In
• Will Hernandez: Hernandez could be in store for a bounce back after a disappointing second season. Garrett’s system and offensive line coach Marc Colombo’s blocking schemes seem like a better fit for the physical Hernandez. Roster status: In
• Nick Gates: Gates had a slight edge in the center competition before Spencer Pulley recently missed four practices, including the scrimmage. That time helped solidify Gates’ hold on the position. It will be important for Gates, who has never played center in a game, to quickly master the mental challenges of the position. Roster status: In
• Kevin Zeitler: Zeitler is Mr. Reliable at right guard. It’s the only position on the offensive line with no question marks. Roster status: In
• Cameron Fleming: The Giants are banking on Fleming to be a starter at right tackle. That’s a gamble considering he’s never been a full-time starter in his first six NFL seasons. Fleming’s performance in Friday’s scrimmage raised questions about his ability to handle the role. Roster status: In
• Spencer Pulley: Pulley appears locked in as a veteran backup behind the inexperienced Gates. But the Giants are hosting Jon Halapio, who started 15 games at center for them last season, for a workout on Tuesday. If Halapio, who tore his Achilles in last season’s finale, is healthy, the Giants could sign him for a minimum deal ($825,000). They could then swap him in for Pulley, who has a $2.75 million cap hit and would leave no dead money if cut. Roster status: In
• Matt Peart: Peart was viewed as a project when the Giants drafted him in the third round. Though that’s still the case to an extent, the 6-foot-7, 318-pound UConn product has looked more NFL-ready than expected. That’s good news for the Giants since Solder’s opt out bumped Peart up the depth chart and eliminated the prospect of 2020 being used as a redshirt year. Roster status: In
• Shane Lemieux: Lemieux has demonstrated the nasty demeanor that was expected. There’s no starting role for the fifth-round pick this year, but he could be the eventual replacement for Zeitler, who is signed through 2021. Roster status: In
• Chad Slade: Slade quietly finds himself in the mix for a roster spot again after being a healthy scratch for all 16 games last season. His ability to play guard and tackle adds value, especially with Peart potentially not ready to step into the lineup. But the numbers don’t appear to work in Slade’s favor. He could be cut and then quickly re-signed after the Giants put safety Xavier McKinney (broken foot) on injured reserve this weekend. Roster status: Bubble — Out
• Tyler Haycraft: Haycraft took advantage of Pulley’s absence, playing a ton of snaps at center in Friday’s scrimmage. Haycraft doesn’t look like an undrafted rookie transitioning from tackle to center. He’s shown impressive athleticism but could use some more weight on his 6-foot-3, 293-pound frame. He’s a prime practice squad candidate. Roster status: Out
• Eric Smith: Smith was on the Giants’ roster all last season, struggling when he replaced Solder midway through a loss to the Jets in Week 10. The additions of Fleming, Thomas and Peart this offseason should bump Smith off the roster. Roster status: Out
• Kyle Murphy: Murphy was coveted by the Giants after the draft, as they gave him the highest guarantee ($97,000) of an undrafted free agent they signed. But the 6-foot-4, 302-pounder hasn’t moved the needle at all at camp. The guaranteed money assures Murphy is headed to the practice squad. Roster status: Out
• Jackson Dennis: Dennis has taken fewer reps than any player during training camp. It’s tough for an undrafted free agent to prove himself without opportunities. Roster status: Out
Defensive linemen (9)
• Dexter Lawrence: Lawrence’s rookie season provided a baseline that he’ll be a quality run-stuffer. The Giants believe he can bring more as a pass-rusher and there have been signs of that this summer, with Lawrence batting down numerous passes after pushing the interior of the pocket. Roster status: In
• Leonard Williams: Williams is a good player. The Giants made a heavy investment in him in the belief that he can be a great player. Finally translating his pressures into sacks would help Williams reach that level. Roster status: In
• Dalvin Tomlinson: Tomlinson remains a reliable cog in the middle of the defensive line. He won’t have much of a role in the passing game, but he should be a key piece of a strong run defense. Roster status: In
• B.J. Hill: Hill has been reduced to a rotation player, but he has value as a defensive tackle in passing situations. Roster status: In
• Austin Johnson: Johnson is on the opposite end of the spectrum from Hill as a rotational run-stuffing defensive tackle. Roster status: In
• R.J. McIntosh: McIntosh hadn’t managed to stand out among a crowd of more accomplished defensive linemen early in camp. He suffered a foot/ankle injury on Monday that should seal his fate. Roster status: Bubble — Out
• Chris Slayton: There isn’t much room for developmental defensive tackles on a team that has invested so much at the position. Roster status: Out
• Niko Lalos: Lalos has more of a defensive end profile than most of the Giants’ other more stout defensive linemen. The undrafted rookie from Dartmouth could be worth developing on the practice squad. Roster status: Out
• Daylon Mack: Defensive line coach Sean Spencer said Mack “has the biggest thighs I have ever seen in my life.” Not much else has been noticeable from the 340-pounder. Roster status: Out
Outside linebackers (6)
• Lorenzo Carter: The Giants are hoping this is the season the physically gifted Carter finally puts it all together. He fueled those beliefs with a dominant three-sack performance in last Friday’s scrimmage. Carter has always looked the part. Finding consistency is the key to taking the next step. Roster status: In
• Oshane Ximines: Much like Carter a year ago, the Giants are expecting Ximines to take a leap in his second season. That didn’t happen for Carter. Ximines has had a quiet camp, but he should have an opportunity for a bigger role this season. Roster status: In
• Markus Golden: Golden has shown his pass-rushing ability throughout camp. He may not play 83 percent of the defensive snaps like he did a year ago, but he still should bring value as a pass rusher. Roster status: In
• Kyler Fackrell: Fackrell has come on recently after a slow start to camp. Like Golden, he’ll be counted on to bolster the pass rush. Roster status: In
• Cam Brown: Brown generates a lot of attention from the coaching staff for mistakes, but that could come from the belief that he has potential. There’s not much playing time available at edge with four established players ahead of him, but his athleticism could be an asset on special teams. Roster status: Bubble — In
• Carter Coughlin: Coughlin has picked up his play recently. But like Brown, he doesn’t have an avenue to a role on defense. Brown appears slightly ahead of Coughlin in the pecking order due to their respective special teams roles. Roster status: Bubble — Out
Inside linebackers (7)
• Blake Martinez: Martinez raised some concerns when he was missing from two practices recently, but he returned this week. The Giants need the veteran in the middle of their defense running the show. Martinez may not be a game-changer, but he should be a clear upgrade over Alec Ogletree. Roster status: In
• Devante Downs: Downs had the biggest rise of any player in camp. From obscurity to pushing for a starting spot, the third-year pro has quickly impressed the new coaching staff. Downs’ athleticism makes him a fit as a complement to Martinez. Roster status: In
• David Mayo: Mayo was signed after cut day last season to serve as a backup linebacker and core special teamer. He wound up starting 13 games due to injuries. Mayo was likely headed back to his originally intended role before tearing the meniscus in his left knee. He had surgery last Thursday and is expected to miss three to four weeks. The Giants will likely carry Mayo on their initial 53-man roster, shift him to injured reserve and then activate him when he’s healthy. Roster status: In
• Ryan Connelly: Fans had high expectations for Connelly after three impressive starts last season. But a torn ACL ended his rookie season prematurely and he hasn’t picked up where he left off. He missed five straight practices early in camp, but has looked good since returning to action. He’ll need to prove to the coaches that he deserves his starting job back. Roster status: In
• Tae Crowder: The last pick in the draft, Crowder hasn’t been irrelevant in camp. Crowder has flashed some athleticism at the second level. He looks leaner than his 6-foot-3, 235-pound listing, so it’s hard to imagine him filling an every-down role. But he could figure into the equation on special teams and as a linebacker in passing situations. Roster status: Bubble — In
• Josiah Tauaefa: Tauaefa is right on the bubble. The Giants have plenty of bodies at inside linebacker, but he’s the best special teamer of the bunch with Mayo out. Perhaps the Giants will cut Tauaefa and then immediately re-sign him after putting Mayo on IR. Roster status: Bubble — Out
• TJ Brunson: Brunson has made a few plays in camp, but not enough to stand out in this crowd at inside linebacker. Roster status: Bubble — Out
Cornerbacks (9)
• James Bradberry: Bradberry has given up some deep completions, but there’s no cause for concern with a veteran who has held his own against the murderers’ row of NFC South receivers for the past four years. Bradberry is adjusting to the Giants’ man-heavy scheme and technique is a bigger priority than results in practice. The Giants need Bradberry to play like the No. 1 corner they’re paying him to be. Roster status: In
• Corey Ballentine: Ballentine is in line to be the Giants’ No. 2 corner seemingly by default. The role was expected to be filled by DeAndre Baker (legal issues), Sam Beal (opt out) or Ross Cockrell (contract snafu), but none of those panned out. That leaves Ballentine, a 2019 sixth-round pick from Division II Washburn, who hasn’t looked ready for prime time in camp. Roster status: In
• Darnay Holmes: Expectations are high for Holmes, a fourth-round pick transitioning to the slot from the outside. Holmes has looked up to the task, displaying impressive ball skills in camp. Roster status: In
• Brandon Williams: Williams’ first practice was on Sunday, which doesn’t give much time to make an impression. But it’s telling that the Giants felt like they needed to add the veteran after watching their cornerback corps for the first two weeks of camp. Williams is more of a special teamer, which is a need after the Giants lost Cody Core with a torn Achilles early in camp. Roster Status: Bubble — In
• Logan Ryan: Ryan technically isn’t on the roster yet and nothing is done until the ink is dry on the contract, as the Giants learned when Cockrell’s negotiations broke down at the eleventh hour. But barring another hitch, Ryan should officially join the Giants by the end of the week after agreeing to a one-year deal worth up to $7.5 million Monday. It’s too early to know where Ryan will fit — he’s played outside corner, slot corner and views himself as more of a safety now — but the bottom line is he instantly becomes the most accomplished player in the Giants’ secondary. A role will work itself out. Roster status: In
• Jarren Williams: Williams was a nice story early in camp as an undrafted rookie out of Albany earning reps opposite Bradberry. But the signings of Brandon Williams and Ryan show that the Giants are seeking an upgrade at corner. Roster status: Out
• Grant Haley: Haley is another corner pushed further off the bubble by the recent signings. Haley has spent more time outside in camp after primarily playing slot corner in his first two seasons. Moving to safety may end up being his best shot to hang on in the NFL, but it appears his days are numbered with the Giants. Roster status: Bubble — Out
• Dravon Askew-Henry: Askew-Henry generated some buzz after a strong showing in the XFL, but he looked overmatched early in camp. He’s since rebounded but not enough to make a real push for a spot. Roster status: Out
• KeiVarae Russell: Russell signed alongside Brandon Williams on Saturday. But it’s unlikely that the Giants will completely overhaul their cornerback corps at this stage, so it would be a surprise if Russell makes the roster. Roster status: Out
• Prince Smith: The Giants signed Smith, an undrafted rookie out of New Hampshire, on Aug. 15. He hasn’t shown anything to warrant a longer look. Roster status: Out
Safeties (8)
• Jabrill Peppers: I’m inclined to be skeptical that a former first-round pick and mega-recruit who is entering his fourth NFL season can suddenly raise his game to another level. But Peppers has looked better this summer, particularly in coverage. Daily battles with Engram should benefit both players. Roster status: In
• Julian Love: Though Xavier McKinney’s foot injury is a big blow, it needs to be noted that Love was ahead of the rookie on the depth chart at the time of the injury. So this isn’t a situation where Love will now be pressed into a more prominent role. He earned a starting job with his performance late last season and through the offseason program. The question mark with Love is if he has the speed to be a playmaker as a deep safety since Peppers will spend more time around the line of scrimmage. Roster status: In
• Xavier McKinney: Even though McKinney hadn’t cracked the starting lineup, he was due for a big role before undergoing surgery on a fractured fifth metatarsal in his left foot last week. The Giants wanted Peppers, Love and McKinney on the field together to form a flexible secondary capable of matching up with a variety of offenses. It should take McKinney two to three months to recover from the surgery, so the Giants will have to wait until at least the second half of the season to see the second-round pick. McKinney will likely be placed on injured reserve shortly after making the initial 53-man roster on Saturday so he’ll be eligible to return this season. Roster status: In
• Montre Hartage: Hartage is the player who could see the biggest bump in playing time as a result of McKinney’s injury. If the Giants stick to their plan of using three-safety packages, Hartage is next in line. The second-year pro spent last season in Miami with Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. Roster status: In
• Nate Ebner: Technically, Ebner is a safety. But he really belongs in the specialists group. The 31-year-old spent the past eight seasons with Judge in New England and will be counted on to be a leader on special teams. Roster status: In
• Sean Chandler: Chandler quietly has appeared in 29 games for the Giants over the past two seasons. He may be able to keep his streak going for a third year. Chandler hasn’t seen much action at safety, but he’s been a core special teamer. That special teams acumen — combined with McKinney’s injury — could be enough to earn a roster spot with Judge placing a premium on the kicking game. Roster status: Bubble — In
• Chris Williamson: Williamson was billed as a hybrid nickel defender after being drafted in the seventh round of this year’s draft. He has mostly worked at safety but hasn’t made much of an impression. The practice squad is a likely destination. Roster status: Bubble — Out
• Jaquarius Landrews: Landrews already was a long shot as an undrafted free agent. Add in an injury that has sidelined him for five straight practices and his fate is sealed. Roster status: Out
Specialists (3)
• Graham Gano: The Giants signed Gano on Aug. 19, giving him a one-year deal that reportedly includes $1 million guaranteed. The 33-year-old appears healthy after missing last season with a broken femur in his plant leg. Gano has been impressive in camp, missing only two kicks in team periods. Roster status: In
• Riley Dixon: The steady Dixon should be the Giants’ punter for the foreseeable future after signing a three-year extension through 2022 last December. Roster status: In
• Casey Kreiter: Kreiter hasn’t done anything to draw attention during training camp. That’s exactly how long snapper should exist. Roster status: In

Går jorden under då?

Silver linings from an otherwise dumpster fire of a game, Aleña will surely grow into a competent and dependable midfielder, our defensive line looked extremely solid although Valladolid was terrible going forward, and coutinho's flashes of brilliance at the end might signal a return to form for him.
That being said, if we go up against Lyon with this kind of a showing, another early CL exit is on the cards.
Edit addendum: Has anyone noticed how Suarez, alba and Messi look for each other disregarding other players in slightly better positions multiple times per game? Especially coutinho and Vidal? It has worked immensely well many times over the last 2 seasons, especially alba-messi, but hopefully it does not lead to resentment and/or a development of factions within the team.

We shouldve won by 5. Ridiculous finishing. Fucking get right everyone - big game midweek. Wake the fuck up!
Messi hattrick coming on tuesday...i hope...pls.
Edit: Cant wait for jovic to bring some young blood to the 9 position. Getting real tired of luisitos sloppiness.

Let's start Pique as a striker, I guarantee you by the end of the season he'll gave more goals than Suarez.
Obviously overreacting but we NEED more from Suarez or else I wouldn't mind selling him for a tidy sum. There are hungrier strikers out there just itching to meet the end of Messi's passes.

I loved the game. So many chances created. Sure we didn't finish, it was comedy at times but Football eh. These are fun nervy moments.
Vidal having a solid game after a very poor last game against Athletic. Alena showed real drive and positivity.
Pique solid as ever. Messi despite having many negative moments was still elite given how much danger he created for himself and others.
This was Javi Varas-lite type match. These happen.
Edit: Boateng wasn't half bad either. Held the ball, played back to goal, created chances for teammates and for himself which he comically missed.

10 things: (have repeated some observations I made at half time)
There was nothing wrong tactically. It's just that we were lacking urgency, almost like they're taking this to be a training session. Second half we heated things up, but poor finishing on multiple occasions let us down.
Démbéle's made a strong return. He's the only one who's looked lively and tried to create chances.
Messi has been strange. He's trying but he's lost a yard of pace and dribbling in these last few years. Misplaced passes and overran dribbles a few times, (and missed a penalty) but it's just one game. He'll be fine, GOAT after all.
Vidal started strong when he arrived, but he's been straight up terrible these last few games. Ran with the same 110% intensity throughout, though, and made an acceptable defensive performance.
Piqué MOTM, impeccable in offence and defence. Vermaelen was solid as well.
Second half, Coutinho was to quote Ray Hudson "the brightest spark." Dembouz was brought off to save him for Lyon, and Coutinho did very very well in the little time he was given.
Suarez. Man. He tried, but missed sitters. Second highest top scorer still, but he needs to find his form again.
Aleña greatly improved in the second half, positive from him. I like how he's being eased into the team by EV; he's one to look out for.
Valladolid looked fine on the counter, they weren't as dangerous as Bilbao last week, obviously, but they played a brave game. And Jordi Masip, pity he couldn't continue with us, but power to him.
Lastly, had to mention this, but Christ, Sergi Roberto is as good as fricking Kante when it comes to stamina. It's the 90th minute and he's sprinting up and down. May not be the fastest, but has the lungs of a horse. Proud and happy to have him as our fourth captain.
All in all, I get the feeling we took it easy so as to save up for the knockout match away and not get any unnecessary injuries. We could've played better, definitely yes, but I think this game was more function than style.
As always, Força Barça!
Author: rightfootmessi Score: 15 pts Source
Holy crap, Masip was on another level today.
Defense was a masterclass today, but offense was more of a disasterclass. Messi was so off form today, he looked bang average. Boateng tried very hard, but it didn't go too well for him. Dembele was alright, I think he just needs another game or two to get back in full form. Suarez is... Suarez. Frustrating. Coutinho was far and above the best player on our front line today. I was quite impressed with his cameo tbh, looks like he's starting to recover his form again. Hopefully that continues.
Pique is MOTM today, not just MOTMOTM. Shout out to verminator as well. Sergi nearly had a goal too. Alba did well too. MAtS may as well not have been on the pitch at all, he wasn't needed with the way our defense shut down everything.
I'm not worried too much Lyon. Doesnt look like they'll get more than 1 goal past us. But unless our attackers shape up we may not get a goal past them.
EDIT: Mixed feelings about aleñá today. At times sparkled, at times acted like Oprah gifting the ball to Valladolid on multiple occasions.
SECOND EDIT: Can we make Pique our Suarez backup please?
Author: PatrickM_ Score: 7 pts Source
Here's my 2 cents:
Defense was good, in fact Ter Stegen got a nice break and was hardly used.
Alena and Vidal were hard working but not at their best. Nothing bad to say about them but nothing too remarkable either
Messi had an off game. His passes and whatnot were good but finishing was poor and he seemed exhausted all game
Dembele and Coutinho were both good and hoping for a stellar performance in our next 4 difficult games. I predict Dembele against Lyon and Madrid, Coutinho against Sevilla.
Prince didn't do much but was trying. The problem was more to do with no one providing any passes to him. Maybe lack of confidence from the team. Suarez was good off the ball, but finishing pretty poor.
FINALLY, AND MOST IMPORTANT: Coutinho should've taken the penalty. It would've helped with confidence, he's good at them, he earned us the penalty, and he would've added unpredictability for the goalkeeper

2019.06.14 07:28 xJVIayhem PTS: Cataclysm Map/Guide

Link to Map
This map is nearly complete, it's as complete as I wish to make it for now. Most stuff is marked aside from a few things, either due to quantity or lack of importance.
I've marked the following on this Map:
The Following are not Marked:
This is only a written guide, so I hope it's good enough to follow along. Below is a copy-paste of my Original Guide I posted on the AHQ Boards. If you'd like to view it there, use this link.

This is your final warning, if you want to figure these out on your own, stop reading now.

Event 1: Eye of Magnus (The Approach)

When you first arrive in the cataclysm, the first event is direct. You're tasked with destroying the gate in the middle of the area. The pillars need to be activated within a certain time limit, which seems to be roughly 1-2 minutes. Once all are active, they stay active.
Here's the steps to complete this:
  1. Enter the area and pop the Barrier in the middle to protect from the cataclysm debuff.
  2. Activate each of the 7 pillars spread evenly across the area using your interact key.
  3. (Optional, but recommended) Kill all the Mobs for loot, has a guaranteed Fury Spawn.
  4. Smash the Gate and collect your chest.
For Maximum Points, try to kill as many mobs and activate as many pillars as you safely can before popping the safety bubble. The Cataclysm Debuff grants double score.

Event 2: Britaheim (Hope Shattered)

This is found on the eastern cliff. The goal is to use the Echoes to make the gate vulnerable an destroy it. This puzzle, alongside the other Echo Puzzle are the more complicated hard hard to do in Public Runs. These require communication.
Upon arriving, you see 4 echoes, locked away in protective bubbles. You will need all 4 of these to progress. Here's the steps to get each, as they are all similar.
  1. Locate Echo
  2. Follow wire along the ground to shield disabling button.
  3. Have a player stand on this button
  4. have a second player collect the Echo.
This can be done solo if you move quickly enough, Colossus may be the only one that can't solo this. As of the June 6th PTS update, these can no longer be soloed, and Colossus may have issues properly triggering the switch, which can often result in trapped allies that are forced to respawn.
Next, is a short Underwater section to collect the fifth and final Echo to complete. Using the Echoes you've already collected, follow these steps to complete this event.
  1. Place two outside of the underwater cave (below the glowing arrows), this disables the barrier that prevent echoes from leaving the room
  2. Place the remaining two echoes on the areas to the left and right of the protected Echo.
  3. Collect the final Echo
  4. Take this Echo and the other two outside of the cave Before removing the echoes outside that are preventing the barrier from being up.
  5. Once all three echoes are past the barrier, take deposit all 5 in the reservoirs in the main area, including the ones keeping the previous barrier up.
  6. (Optional) Clean up any spawned mobs, Legendary Valkyrie with guaranteed drops at the end.
  7. Destroy the Gate
  8. Collect your Chest

Event 3: Casja's Forge (The Labyrinth)

A bit further north, and to the west near the small protection bubble is the next event. This is a simple puzzle, but without understanding or communication can take awhile.
This case has 4 Fragments that must be collected and returned to silence a relic. Here are the steps to complete:
  1. Run to and Pick up the Fragments.
  2. (Optional) Kill spawns, this room has a Name Valkyrie with guaranteed drop that can spawn.
  3. Take them to the Relic avoiding the Barriers
  4. Claim your Chest.
A bit of Speed Tech if you want to call it that, if you are fast enough, you can make it around to the opposite side of the room, waiting for only one barrier swap. Might be exclusive to the Interceptor due to triple jump/dash.

Event 4: (New Dawn)

Another Puzzle with moving pieces. This time instead of echoes, you're moving around moving around small relics. You start with 2 loose relics, and use them to access two additional relics. It's somewhat similar to Britaheim, but requires matching symbols, rather than placing anywhere.
Here are the steps to complete:
  1. Pick up initial two relics.
  2. Locate sealed Door.
  3. Look at the symbols above the door.
  4. Find the matching pedestals and place the relics to open the door.
  5. Grab the new relic.
  6. Repeat Steps 2-5 for fourth relic.
  7. Look at the base of the lower that hold the crystal.
  8. Find the matching symbols and place relics accordingly.
  9. Kill everything that spawns (optional)
  10. Smash the Crystal.

Event 5: (Dominion Foothold)

This is purely a kill event. Nothing complicated to it.
Here are the Steps to Complete:
  1. Kill Everything to spawn named Fury.
  2. Kill name Fury and pickup the key.
  3. Activate the two consoles and you're done!
Event 6: (Trials of Might)
Another Echo puzzle, A bit more straight forward than Britaheim imo. Still uses only 5 Echoes. Requires a Full party of 4 to complete, minimum 2 and communication.
Here are the steps to complete:
  1. Collect the Echo they give you.
  2. Place this Echo in the device facing the cliff with the vaporizing barrier.
  3. Have two players go up and collect the 4 Echoes on the cliff.
  4. Once all 4 are collected and past the barrier remove the echo from the the device for the cliff.
  5. The players holding echoes move into the first segment of the tunnel, but not past. At least 3 players should be here in this small segment.
  6. The echo removed from the cliff is now inserted to remove the vaporizing barrier from the second and third segment of the tunnel.
  7. All four Echoes are place into the reservoirs in the back of the cave.
  8. The player outside will now remove the echo from the door, and fly to regroup with the team. (the Echo getting reset here is intentional and does not matter!)
  9. Stand on the four switches to activate the device and complete the Event.

Boss Fight: Vara

This boss seems relatively straightforward currently. Weak point is at the head, and currently only has 2 phases. Aim for the head for extra damage, doesn;t appear to be any additional weakpoints. Still need to get more information for this fight, but this is what I have currently. It's not much, but working on it.

Phase 1: Default Phase

Phase seems pretty standard. Stand in the middle of the arena launching attacks. Occasionally summon a few Dominion troops. Below is a list of attacks I've seen.
Attack List:

Phase 2: The Floor is Lava

More of the same, but Vara relocates herself to one of the farthest pillars. However if you want to live, I suggest staying on the pillars yourself. She Spreads fire across the entire battlefield, while disabling Flight, leaving the pillars safe. If you want to be able to melee her, you need to predict which pillar she will be on, which can be hard.
She seems to enter and leave this phase every 20% HP. Meaning at 80% and 40% Health is when this should become active.
Attack List:

Maximizing Your Score

So in Summary, as quickly as you can.. Kill everything, complete all objectives, collect everything, finish by killing off Vara.

2019.03.29 02:26 Gallowgrim [Homecoming] A No-Spoiler Review

Once again, this is Grim, sharing my thoughts on the new campaign after completing it:
CARDS: There's a lot of fun stuff here, janky bits and build-arounds in generous quantities. I'm not sure we're going to see a new Tavrod, Hailstorm,or Baby Vara out of this campaign - nothing jumped out at me as that defining - but I'm not the greatest judge there.

STORY: Homecoming's story plays by the numbers, with no real surprises, and a rather rapid pace-for good or ill. It's a step down from Dead Reckoning, and maybe slightly under the par of Into Shadow. We don't get any notable new lore for the setting, but the voice-acting is solid and it proves DWD are not afraid to shake up Myria's status-quo.

GAMEPLAY: While this is where Into Shadow truly shined, it's where Homecoming trips and goes sprawling onto its face. The decision to limit players to less-than-stellar preconstructed decks and replace the puzzles and modifiers of past campaigns with straightforward fights.. is not a good one on either count. Only two matches feel at all up to par with past campaign battles - and the final 'boss' of the campaign's penultimate chapter is utter trash from both a design and fun perspective; if you've ever wanted to play a gauntlet match against an abysmally un-fun modifier, but with the added bonus of there being zero practical chance of that modifier benefiting you in any way? Here you go!
Seriously DWD, please, call this a misfire and go back to the old format.
(And include more battles like the second-to-last one. That was the highlight of the whole campaign, gameplay-wise, and genuinely enjoyable.)

OVERALL VERDICT: I wish I could be more positive here, but I believe in tough love. Homecoming has some fun cards, and a couple good matches to offer, but they're buried under the weight of otherwise forgettable matches and truly unfortunate gameplay decisions, and while Into Shadow's boss encounter was the most-fun I've had with PvE Eternal, the penultimate chapter's boss is almost undoubtedly the absolute least fun I've ever had with the game.

Overall? Homecoming offers a lot of fun, build-around cards, and a good if not-too-exciting story that is married to a noble experiment in campaign gameplay - but a failed experiment by all counts, where the small handful of highlights can't compensate for the absolutely wretched lows it occasionally sinks to.

2018.12.21 23:05 BlancheFromage Nichiren's connection with religion's ancient pathology, pedophilia

It will surprise no one who's actually read the Gosho (Nichiren's supposed writings) that Nichiren reserved a special strain of hatred for the Nembutsu sect, in which he had originally become a priest. In fact, Nichiren ripped off one of their secondary practices (chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo), declared himself the creator of a brand NEW practice, and repeatedly demanded that the government wipe out his former sect by chopping the priests' heads off and burning their temples to the ground.
Wow - vilification and loathing much, Nichiren??
Where do you supposed this might have come from? Oh, darn, spoilered it in the title... So anyhow, now that the catamite's out of the bag (so to speak), let's get into the evidence!
Chigo in the Medieval Japanese Imagination
This article explores the representation of chigo—adolescent males attached to Buddhist temples or aristocratic households who were educated, fed, and housed in exchange for personal, including sexual, services—in medieval Japan.
Remember that Nichiren sought to enter the temple because he wanted to learn to read and write.
The author discusses how chigo were depicted in historical records, in contemporary short fictional narratives, and in a “Chinese” legend invented by Japanese Tendai monks; the chigo are also compared to the Tang consort Yang Guifei. Fictional and real chigo tend to fall victim to violence, and it is argued that the chigo functions as a surrogate sacrificial victim, a cultural figure whose role is outlined most prominently in the works of René Girard.
We don't know much about Nichiren's youth - the first biography of Nichiren was written by someone who was born after Nichiren was already dead - and Nichiren isn't really talking much. However, from what little he says, we can glean some facts:
  • Nichiren was from a poor family (and thus at a disadvantage in entering a temple)
  • Nichiren entered the priesthood at age 12
That's about it. Now let's learn some stuff:
SOME BUDDHIST TEMPLES AND aristocratic households in medieval Japan included among their members one or more chigo (literally, “children”), adolescent males who were given room, board, and education in exchange for their companionship and sexual services, which they were obliged to provide to high-ranking clerics or elite courtiers. In literary and dramatic texts and in pictures such as those included in illustrated handscrolls (emaki), the chigo are often portrayed as the center of attention at banquets—seated in the place of honor and drinking from the host’s cup, the chigo sings, dances, plays music, or composes poetry while the other guests watch in rapt delight. In the handful of extant short stories from the medieval period featuring chigo (a subgenre known as chigo monogatari), the chigo typically meets a tragic death by suicide, murder, or illness. In some cases, the chigo is posthumously revealed to have been an avatar of a bodhisattva, usually Kannon (Avalokites´- vara).
Or "Jogyo"??
Around the figure of this “divine boy” accreted a great deal of lore, ritual, and literature whose contradictions pose intriguing and troubling questions. How does the portrayal of chigo in cultural discourse compare to the historical record? Why are these sexual playthings simultaneously deified and repeatedly subjected to violence? What does the plight of the chigo reveal about the inner workings of medieval Japanese politics, religion, and culture? These questions lead us to a deeper understanding of the intersecting histories of sexuality, violence, kingship, and the sacred in East Asia and beyond.
Besides the specific duties that chigo performed, Tsuchiya shows, the chigo were obliged to obey their masters unconditionally; the relationship was likened to that between parent and child or lord and vassal. In many scholarly treatments of the chigo, they are viewed largely within the context of nanshoku (literally, “male–male sexuality,” but for the most part in premodern Japan, this meant pederasty) because the obedience a chigo owed to his master extended to the bedchamber. Indeed, in literary accounts of the chigo, their physical beauty and charm play prominent roles, and chigo are often depicted in sexual relationships with Buddhist clerics.
One text that Tsuchiya and others draw upon extensively is Uki, a kambun text written by Cloistered Prince Shukaku (1150–1202), abbot at Omuro in Ninnaji, that includes extensive remarks on how chigo should behave.
Nichiren was born in early 1222.
Chigo should rise early for their prayers; they should not walk around after eating with toothpicks in their mouths; they should pick up their feet while walking down corridors. Among the prince’s points is that the term of a chigo was brief: just four or five years before taking the tonsure at age seventeen to nineteen at the latest (not all chigo took the tonsure; others married and set up their own households). From this we can gather that chigo ranged in age from twelve to nineteen, an estimate that accords with the literary depictions.
Chigo, the prince wrote, should use this precious time wisely, studying music and other arts, participating in poetry gatherings, and reading secular literature (Buddhist texts could be studied after taking the tonsure).
Now, Nichiren claims to be very ugly, but a great many ugly adults were rather beautiful as children. Adolescence can be very hard on people... Also, since we have no contemporary accounts (at all) about Nichiren, we know nothing about what he actually looked like. We don't know if he was tall or short, or fat or thin - nothing was written about him, no portraits were painted of him, until long after he was dead. So Nichiren could have been subconsciously expressing self-loathing in declaring himself "ugly".
Also, notice that the age when chigo enter into these arrangements is 12 years old, the same age Nichiren claims he was when he entered the temple of Seicho-ji. Although nominally a Tendai temple, his mentor there, Dozen-bo, held Nembutsu views. Dozen-bo was apparently not of high status, so a low status chigo like Nichiren may have been all he could get.
Additionally, some of this "poor poor pitiful Nichiren" talk may be a later function to obscure Nichiren's true origins. I seem to recall some discussion about how Nichiren's father was some sort of local boss, not quite the chandala or "untoucheable" caste - the Eta. However, his occupation of seaweed farmer and occasional fisherman does not match that report of the types of jobs that resulted in that status. Also, there's this: 1184,Yoritomo had commended Awa-no-kuni Province (where Nichiren was born) as a tribute estate to supply food to the Outer Shrine of Ise. The prestige gained thereby for his province and the favour gained for the “barbaric eastern samurai” evidently pleased Nichiren... Source
That was well before Nichiren was born, so this area and its denizens had already received a status upgrade before Nichiren arrived on the scene.
Apparently, the yakuza were already in existence at that point, and the local samurai families Nichiren was preaching to were involved. So we've got contradictions and there's a lot we just plain don't know here.
Nichiren's first "master" was a priest named Dozen-Bo:
Dozen-bo (?-1276) was a priest of Seichoji Temple, Awa, the present Chiba Prefecture, and served as master priest for Nichiren Shonin after our Founder took his vows as a priest at the age of 11 in 1233 in his temple. Source
Problem here is that, according to the source we're studying, priests did not take the tonsure until around age 15, certainly not as children of 11 or 12 years old!
(Typically youths either took the tonsure or underwent the coming-of-age ceremony at about age fifteen.)
This Nichiren bio information also does not explain how Nichiren started out as a Nembutsu priest, though Nichiren himself acknowledges this. Perhaps Dozen-bo was Nichiren's master during Nichiren's chigo tenure and then "graduated" into a Nembutsu temple to train for his priesthood. Nichiren did not establish his own sect until he was 32, I believe, so there was plenty of time for Nembutsuing.
Sexual attraction fueled the establishment and maintenance of what one might term the chigo “system” (chigo-sei), and anal penetration of the chigo by his master was its highest “ritual.” The element of transgression is significant in these fantasies. None of them depict sex between a chigo and his master; in all cases, the sex occurs between the chigo and an admirer or other type of proxy. While the chigo owes his loyalty and subservience to his master, another man intervenes to supplant the master, effectively cuckolding him, and to assert his physical dominance over the master as well as the chigo, who typically remains blasé with regard to the action taking place, emotionally removed in a posture of remote beauty.
According to this model, Nichiren as Dozen-bo's chigo would have been used sexually by someone else - could that have been someone linked to the Nembutsu? There is another story from antiquity of a chigo, Aimitsu-maru (see pp. 949-950), having been purchased by a ranking noble from the Aimitsu-maru's father when the Aimitsu-maru was 21 - shades of Toda's meeting with Pappy Ikeda to gain possession of Daisaku!
In the end, how are we to read the chigo tales? Are they a “euphemization of exploitation through a mystical discourse” and possibly “a rather crude ideological cover-up for a kind of institutionalized prostitution or rape,” as Faure contends? Do they illustrate the nonduality of good and evil, as Abe suggests? Or, as Childs claims, is the entire genre category itself suspect, “the result of a modern view of homosexuality as an aberrant behavior” that “ignores the prominence of the religious awakening aspect” of the tales?
My focus in this essay has been not on the chigo as demigods or as sex toys (which is not to say that chigo did not fulfill these functions) but as victims of real and imagined violence, whether carried out by others or by themselves. By expanding chigo discourse to include the jido legends and literary accounts of Yang Guifei, we may observe that the role of the chigo may have been to absorb violence and to restore harmony to the community, which is generally consonant with the function of the surrogate sacrificial victim in Girard’s theory of collective violence. Taking a hint from Girard’s association of sexuality with violence (1977, 34–36), should we perhaps then conclude that the historical role of the chigo as a focus of erotic attention was to absorb the sexual desires of their clerical masters so that they would not be directed externally (toward women) or internally (against each other)?
As Mr. Spock might say, "Fascinating." There is every probability that Nichiren, as Zennichi-maro, was a chigo when he moved into the Seichoji temple at age 12. We have no information about what happened between then and his reappearing on the scene at age 32 (a narrative arc much like that of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke).
Did something happen that Zennichi-maro was powerless to escape from that was connected with the Nembutsu priesthood? It appears likely, from Nichiren's irrational animosity toward the Nembutsu school later on in life. He seems to have had nothing but affection for Dozen-Bo, though, who died when Nichiren was 26 or so.

2018.12.13 04:02 KnightBreeze What I've Become: Chapter I

Well, as I promised, here is the next chapter of my story What I've Become. As always, if you are impatient, you can purchase the full, first book right here: What I've Become.

But for now, here is the story:

Chapter I
In the Diarchy of Ari, the province of Ros, just east of the forest of Yith, there sat a little town named Jov. This town had a little bit of everything; logging from the forest, crops that grew from the nearby farms, and many fair maidens hoping to catch the attention of the visiting Knight-Lieutenant, or at least one of his soldiers that he had stationed in the small, sleepy town.
The Knight-Lieutenant was quite the catch, too. He was rather tall for a drake, standing almost a head taller than most of his troops. His feathers were a dark blue, with his crest being a dull slate grey with no other color at the tips. He had three scars over his left eye from when a nightmare almost clawed it out of his head, and his armor was painted a dark blue hue to match his feathers. His beak was engraved with the marks denoting him as a warrior, and his sword had similar runes etched into it.
All in all, he cut a very impressive figure. Combined with his status as heir to his father’s duchy, It was no wonder the local hens were trying to get his attention.
Unfortunately for them, even though the Knight-Lieutenant was very much single, and was actually being urged by his father to find a nice hen to continue the line, he was not here looking for a mate.
No, he was here for a very specific reason. An official reason. Something that he took very, very seriously. He quickly turned his head left, then right, before nodding to himself in satisfaction. Nothing out of place today, either… Knight-Lieutenant Valros thought as he flew over the main road that led back towards his father’s keep.
He and his drakes had been out here patrolling this area for quite some time, keeping their eyes peeled for any nightmares that might have slipped through the queen’s net. Something out here was making them, but for some reason Queen Ja’vail was having a hard time entering that thing’s dreams and putting a stop to it, or even finding the thing.
That alone put Valros and his drakes on edge. Anything that could avoid the queen’s notice had to be something deadly. Sir Dorn had his money on it being a rogue aeon, while Sir Tilvan thought that it might be something from The Darkness that had fled underground when the king had led his people into the daylight. Both prospects would have been equally as devastating to the town of Jov, if the lieutenant were being honest.
Today was looking to be as equally calm as yesterday, though. There was no sign of nightmares taken physical form, nor was there a hint of dark magics about to descend upon the sleepy rural town. If anything, the whole place was almost insulting in how mellow and normal everything was being.
With a sigh, Valros set down on top of one of the rooftops, his strong talons making a slight scratching sound as they found purchase on the center rail at the peak of the building. From here he had a nice view of the surrounding countryside, as well as the forest to the south. The view, combined with the peaceful noises from the town below, as well as the gentle breeze coming in from the north, all served to lull the lieutenant into an introspective mood. This didn’t last long, though, as his thoughts were interrupted by the sound of one of his soldiers settling down next to him. “Copper for your thoughts?” he heard Dorn ask.
Valros turned to look at his friend and second-in-command. The drake was a little shorter than Valros was, though somewhat stockier. He had bright red plumage, with the tips and crest fading into a more mellow orange, both colors denoting his lineage to that of the old Day Clan. His armor was also painted, though its colors matched that of Valros’s, to let everyone know that he belonged to the lieutenant’s brigade. “You look a little out of it, sir,” Dorn said, before handing his senior officer a small flask.
Valros took it gratefully, unscrewed the lid and took a swig of the karro juice inside before answering. “I’m getting kind of worried, Dorn. It feels like something should have happened by now, but… nothing,” Valros said, before handing back the flask.
Dorn huffed a little, his bright red feathers fluffing up in pride. “Maybe the thing was scared off by us? We are a full brigade, after all. We even have the king’s apprentice with us! Anyone would be a fool to attack this town, now.”
Valros gave the young knight a stern look. “Soldier, we’ve purposefully kept her a secret. If anyone is watching this town, all they would know is that the old guard was cycled out for a new set of soldiers.”
“It’s still a possibility. They might have sensed her aura,” Dorn pointed out.
“Which is why she’s been purposefully suppressing it. I brought it up with her last night, and she’s already given me her assurances about that,” Valros countered.
Dorn grunted a little, conceding the point. “Well, at least- wait, what’s that?”
Valros looked to where his subordinate was pointing, his sharp eyes making out something white emerging from the woods. Whatever it was, it looked like it was carrying something darker in front of it. “I’m not sure. You got your spyglass on you?”
“Right here, sir,” Dorn said, handing over the asked for item.
Valros extended the spyglass, centered on the odd thing in the distance, and took a look. “By the Spirits, what is that?” he gasped in shock.
It was a monstrosity, seemingly brewed up by the most diseased, corrupt mind ever to exist. He’d seen plenty of nightmares turned flesh, but this blood-soaked entity was in a league all its own. It stood upright like a person, but it had no feathers, or even wings. Instead it had long, spindly, grasping hands, in which it cradled the body of some poor soul that had run afoul of it. Its long, lanky legs each ended in an odd, five-toed claw, and it walked with a strange, fully upright posture. Valros couldn’t be certain at how tall it was from where he stood, but he could guess based on the hen it held that it could easily dwarf him with its height. Its pallid flesh had a slimy sheen to it, and it was so thin that he could see its ribcage stand out on its torso. Blade-like spikes burst from its back along its spine, faintly reminding him of one of the dragons that his father kept as pets, but otherwise it was completely devoid of hair, feather, scale or any other kind of identifying mark or growth.
As horrifying as all of that was, it was nothing compared to the monster’s face; its lidless eyes were pools of ebony, with no iris or pupil to speak of to tell an observer where the beast was looking. It didn’t seem to have a normal set of nostrils, either, rather just a hole in the center of its face where it looked like that sort of structure should exist. Its maw sported two rows of long, interlocking fangs, completely exposed for all to behold, which seemed to do nothing to stop the endless stream of drool slowly dripping off of its chin. As it got closer to town, Valros noticed that its head seemed to be on a swivel, constantly turning every which way, apparently trying to tell if it had been detected yet.
“Dorn, get down! Before it sees us!” Valros said, hopping off the center rail and moving to one of the lower ones, so that the slant of the roof was blocking the creature’s line of sight of him.
“What’s wrong, sir?” Dorn asked, a little confused. Apparently he still couldn’t quite make out what the monster was in the distance.
“Nightmare, and it looks like it already has a victim… wait a minute…” Valros said, his gaze sweeping over the hen in the monster’s grasp.
“Nightmare? How? The sun is still up! How has it not burst into flames!? If they can withstand the light’s rays now, then-” Dorn said, drawing his blade.
“Then it means that something is controlling it,” Valros pointed out, quickly disarming Dorn’s growing hysteria as he handed back the spyglass. “Here, take a look. It doesn’t have its shadow aura, and it’s incredibly detailed. Those two facts alone should be enough to let you know why it’s not bursting into flames.”
“Oh… yeah… there’s that, too…” Dorn said, sounding a bit sheepish.
“Remember, Sir Dorn. Always pick the answer that is the most likely. After all, if it wasn’t being controlled, then it wouldn’t have left the hen alive. It would have just killed and eaten her already,” Valros said as he pulled out his whispering stone.
Dorn looked at his commanding officer, confusion written on his face. “She’s alive?”
“Yeah. This thing’s probably here to give us a message, and is using the hostage to keep us at bay while it delivers it,” Valros whispered, before squeezing his whispering stone, causing the runes carved into its surface to faintly glow. “This is Knight-Lieutenant Valros, there is a nightmare approaching the town from the east. Do not engage, I repeat, do not engage. The beast has a hostage.”
From the periphery of his vision, Valros could see his drakes land on the roofs around him, but he hardly paid attention to that. His attention was solely on the nightmare turned flesh that was slowly making its way closer to town. He relaxed his grip on the stone, but instead of dimming, the stone continued to glow, letting the lieutenant know that he was about to receive a message. “Lieutenant, nightmares have a very distinct impact on the magical field around them, and I cannot sense anything like that.”
Valros felt like his insides had turned to ice. “Kel’vara, with all due respect, I am staring at the monstrosity right now.
“And I believe you, Lieutenant. Whatever that thing is, it isn’t a nightmare.”
The lieutenant just watched the thing mutely, trying to figure out just what that statement implied. “How?” he asked after a little bit of thought.
“I… I don’t know! I can’t see the thing from where I am, so I don’t know what to think! Give me a second to get out there before doing anything rash,” Kel’vara answered.
There was a slight pause before his whispering stone flared to life again. “Sir? It’s nearing the halfway point between the town and the forest. What do we do if it attacks?” Valros heard Tilvan ask.
“If it attacks, respond in kind. For now we wait,” Valros said before taking Dorn’s spyglass and taking another look at the thing.
“But sir, what about the hostage?”
“Tilvan, If that thing decides to kill her, she’d already be dead before we got there. Unless you want to bet her life on your skill with a bow?”
There was a long pause at that, all while Valros kept his eye glued on the monster. He wasn’t certain, but something about the creature screamed ‘uneasy’. Finally, after what seemed like forever, the whispering stone lit up again. “I… no sir, I wouldn’t,” Tilvan finally responded.
Before Valros could give a reply, there was a fluttering next to him, followed by the sound of talons hooking onto one of the lower railings on the roof. “Is that… oh my…” Valros heard Kel’vara whisper next to him. Valros silently offered her the spyglass, but she turned it down. “No thank you, Lieutenant. My Farsight spell works well enough.”
“What do we do? In fact, what is that thing?” Valros asked, looking to the young mage, hoping that she had a plan in mind, or at the very least, answers. She was fairly short, with dark purple feathers and a worried look in her eye. Her short, nondescript toga was brown in color, and the lieutenant couldn’t see a single weapon on her person. Not that she needed weapons, or armor, for that matter; the glowing runes on her beak spoke of power, and her ability to hurl a spell at a moment’s notice. At the moment, only a fool would think that she was defenseless.
“I’m not sure, Lieutenant. It’s a monster, that’s for certain. One that I didn’t think I’d ever see… wait, what’s it doing?”
Valros pulled up the spyglass again, centering it on the beast. The beast seemed to be aware that it was being watched, its face turned towards the soldiers on the rooftops, as if waiting for them to make a move. When nothing seemed to happen, the blood-soaked demon got down on its knees and, with exaggerated care, put the hen down and gently patted her head.
“Lieutenant, are you seeing what I’m seeing?” Kel’vara asked in a hushed voice.
Knight-Lieutenant Valros watched as the beast leaned away from the hen, its hands out and extended, which it slowly put above its head as it stood up, as if showing that it had no weapons. “I don’t know what I’m seeing, ma’am,” Valros whispered back. “It’s almost as if it’s… surrendering? Or showing us it means no harm? I’m not certain…”
Before the mage could answer, the three whispering stones on that roof crackled to life. “Sir, I have a clear shot, a single arrow could put it down for good. Permission to engage?”
Both Kel’vara and Valros activated their whispering stones at the same time. “No! Just-”
Before either of them could finish their order, however, the creature in the field took in a deep breath, turned sharply, then let out the most terrifying, soul-rending howl that any of them had ever heard as it ran for the safety of the forest. It seriously sounded like two creatures overlapping each other: the first being a low, ominous howl, while the second was a high-pitched scream.
“It’s getting away! Quick, catch it before-” Valros heard over the whispering stone.
Before he could squeeze the stone, or even think about what orders to give his troops, Kel’vara beat him to the punch. “Belay that order! Chase it to the edge of the forest if you must, but whatever you do, you are to let that thing think it escaped, am I clear?” Kel’vara shouted at her own whispering rock. She shouted it so loudly that the whispering rock was completely unnecessary, her echoing voice clearly being heard by all the airborne soldiers as they took off to give chase, as well as most of the townsfolk below.
Her order did not stop the townsfolk, though. Most hadn’t seen the monster, nor did they know what was happening. But they had heard the howl.
Without even thinking about it, the drakes, as well as a few hens, quickly gathered up whatever weapon or farming implement they could get their hands on, determined to protect the town against whatever nightmare or beast had wandered near their town. The rest quickly ran indoors, herding their children with them.
None of this seemed to matter to the escaping monster, whose retreating back became smaller and smaller, until it eventually vanished entirely into the safety of the Forest of Yith. “It… It got away, ma’am, as ordered…” Valros heard Kev say through the stone, clearly frustrated at the orders he had been given.
He wasn’t the only one to question the mage’s judgement. Valros leveled his best, angry stare at the young mage, before slowly raising his own stone, his voice almost eerily calm. “Drakes, I want that hen cared for and brought into custody. We need to know what happened,” Valros said. He then handed Sir Dorn his spyglass, his piercing gaze never once leaving Kel’vara’s face. “Dorn, get Tilvan and Kev and go see if you can pick up that thing’s tracks, but as the lady requested, don't go after it. Just locate its tracks, am I clear?”
Sir Dorn first looked at his commanding officer, than at Kel’vara, then back again, before saluting smartly by striking both of his closed fists to his chest. “Right away, sir!”
Valros didn't say anything at first, choosing to instead wait for Dorn to leave. Once he was sure that there were no soldiers within earshot, he opened his beak, his voice utterly calm. “Miss Kel’vara, do you mind explaining to me why you felt it was so important to allow the monster to escape?”
If the young battlemage was cowed by the lieutenant’s tone, she did not show it. “Calm yourself, Lieutenant. I have my reasons, the most important one being that we don’t know what this thing is, or what it can do.”
If anything, Valros’s eyes only narrowed further. “Earlier, you were implying that you’ve seen this thing before. Now you’re telling me we don't know what this thing is or what it can do? Forgive me if I do not buy your story.”
Kel’vara shook her head at the lieutenant’s anger, clearly unperturbed in the slightest. “I’ve seen something like that before… just not while it was still alive.” Her gaze then left the lieutenant’s face, and moved to where the beast had disappeared into the forest. “We still know nothing about them, so believe me when I say that I’ve done you a favor, Lieutenant.”
Knight-Lieutenant Valros gave a low harumph, his talons making a loud clacking noise as he climbed back to the center rail of the roof. “You mind giving me more information than that?”
Kel’vara shook her head. “Not now. Later, when we meet with His Majesty. He’ll want to know about this personally. For now, try to wake up the hen, and get as much information from her as possible. We’ll meet in my room in one hour; you can give your report to the king there.”
Valros briefly glanced at the position of the sun. “That’s if he’s still awake. Chances are that we’ll end up giving our report to Her Majesty instead.”
Kel’vara glanced at the sun, as if only just realizing how late it is. “Hm… maybe, but the queen is aware of this as well. She’ll be just as interested to hear what you have to say.”
Valros shrugged a little, then unfurled his wings. “Well, I’ll take your word for it. I’ll see you in an hour, then.” Without another word, Sir Valros took to the skies, his course set for the rescued hostage and, hopefully, answers.

Well, thank you all for your time, I hope you enjoyed this little trip into my head. I'll see you guys next week!

2018.10.04 04:05 Gallowgrim [Into Shadow] A No-Spoiler Review

Just sharing my thoughts on the new campaign as a whole.
CARDS: Okay, let's get this out of the way - nothing we'd not ever seen previewed is mind-blowing. Vara's going to be a huge deal I expect, but I personally didn't find many of the other cards to be meta-warping on the scale of, say, Tavrod or Hailstorm. Better competitive minds than mine may well counter this point - so if they do, believe them over me. There's a lot of glorious jank an fun things to build with here, though - and it's not as playable-poor a crop as Jekk's Bounty by any means.
STORY: Following the trend from above, the story here is not quite as narratively-punchy as Dead Reckoning, but it's still a solid tale that fills in the blanks of the world a bit, drips with world-building, and uses its 'interquel' status to let us have some more time with fan-beloved lost characters. Little dialogue touches add to the consistent feel of Myria as a setting, we recieve some hints of the wider world (and beyond), and while the penultimate battle feels.. a little loosely-presented in its justification for happening, being honest, the final boss fight feels suitably epic.
GAMEPLAY: And this is where, in my opinion, Into Shadow truly shines. While not the hardest or most-challenging matches you'll ever face, the modifiers in the campaign's battles tend to be well-balanced, rewarding to build toward exploiting, and - most of all - fun. There are no truly unfun or overly-cheap/cheaty gimmicks to my view, and the last two battles are the crowners - especially the final boss, which is the most fun I've had with a Campaign match in Eternal ever. It's such that I feel inclined to go back and play it again with different methods.
OVERALL VERDICT: Into Shadow does not have as many remarkable playables as Reckoning or Horus, and less dramatic punch than Reckoning in the storytelling, but for my 'Stones, it's the most purely enjoyable campaign yet gamepay-wise. Highly recommended.

2017.09.01 21:46 jklz Match Thread: Granada vs FC Barcelona B [Segunda División]

My first Barça B match thread in years, but here it is! Sorry for being late.
Match is on GOL TV:
Barça B line-up: XI Barça B: Varo - Morer, Martinez, Fali, Cucu - Oriol B, Aleñá, Ruiz de Galaretta - Jose Arnaiz, Vitinho, Abel Ruiz
24' Penalty Granada, stupid foul Morer.
25' Goal Joselu from the spot. No chance for Varo.
34' semi-decent free kick from Vitinho over the bar.
44' Gooool Ruiz de Galaretta!! What a goal by him!
Half-time: Granada 1-1 FCBarcelona B.
52' Gol Pedro Sanchez (2-1). Morer again with a big mistake..
59' Free kick just outside the box, although the foul seemed to happen inside.. Robbed of a penalty? You tell me. Free kick into the wall by Aleñá though.
69' GOOOOOOOOOOL Abel Ruiz!! Long ball to Abel Ruiz, who has loads of time to control it and he finished it ice cold. (2-2)
73' Carles Pérez replaces Vitinho (finally).
91' Ferran with a nice dribble and a fairly good shot, but in the end a fairly easy save for Varas.
5 minutes extra time.
FT: Barça B manage a 2-2 draw away against Granada. Dreadful match, pretty great result.

Heter även Trond i mellannamn.”
Gabriel Somi

Real Madrid – Las Palmas: Match preview
By the time this game kicks off at the Santiago Bernabéu, we'll already know what closest title rivals Barcelona have done in their early evening hosting of Sporting. Assuming no upset, Madrid are going to need no less than three points to return to the top of LaLiga while maintaining a game in hand. As well as this, the home side will want to add another record to their impressive season by scoring in their 45th consecutive match
Real Madrid
Thee league leaders tonight make their return to the Santiago Bernabéu. Following two away trips, Real Madrid are back on home turf, where they welcome UD Las Palmas. Zinedine Zidane's charges will be looking to keep their excellent home form up and register another victory in their bid to remain of the pile (9:30pm CET).
Madrid can lay claim to being the only side in the division whose unbeaten home record is still intact and it has been a year since the side succumbed to defeat at the Santiago Bernabéu in LaLiga. Since then, the Whites have registered 15 wins and been held to two draws. What's more, Madrid have prevailed in each of their last eight home outings.
Confidence Following the side's victory at Villarreal, the only change to the squad list involves the absence of Casemiro. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Zidane, who expressed his confidence in the abilities of the whole squad, highlighted the quality of the opposition: "From a technical point of view, they play the ball around well, particularly in the middle of the park. We'll be trying to make sure that they aren't given time on the ball".
Las Palmas
UD Las Palmas, who yesterday trained at Real Madrid City, have travelled to the capital with a 20-man squad, which notably includes former madridista, Jesé. Despite having slipped to defeat in each of their last four outings, the Canary Islanders head into the game in confident mood. "The players are raring to bring this run to an end. We know just how significant winning at the Santiago Bernabéu would be", stated the islanders' coach, Quique Setién.
Head-to-head record
Kevin-Prince Boateng tops the scoring charts for a Las Palmas side who have never secured victory in a LaLiga fixture at the Bernabéu, with the sides' previous encounters having served up 28 home wins and four draws. Despite this record, Madrid are well aware that they will have to give their all to win here as they look to extend their fine home form. This game comes just three days before the Whites' trip to Éibar and with six days to go before the second leg in Naples. There really is no let-up in the schedule and the league leaders today face yet another test.

Las Palmas:WWLWL

What to expect from our very own Real Madrid:

Coming off of a disappointing result at the midweek, our side will need to make adjustments in the attack as we struggled to create man quality chances. Luckily for us, Las Palmas plays a pretty aggressive style of play and will likely provide us with space to run through. Unfortunately for us we will be without Casemiro and Marcelo. Danilo will likely be the replacement at left back, and in the midfield we will likely see Kroos and Modric play a deeper role. It will be critical for the whole team to work in defense against the fast attacking players.

Team News:

  • Navas makes his return!
  • Notable absences from the squad include Pepe, Marcelo, and Casemiro

Opponent Analysis:

Las Palmas have been one of the early surprises of La Liga. The freshly promoted side has arrived playing a fierce attacking style of play. They have not shown up looking to play for draws, and have played fluid football with lots of great short passing and brilliant wing play. They will be without Kevin Prince-Boateng due to his suspension, but he is replaced by Jonathan Viera, the extremely fast winger

Players to Watch

  • El Zhar, RW – The veteran midfielder leads the team with 2 goals and 2 assists, and features as their primary source of attack.
  • Macedo, RB – The speedy right back is very involved in the team’s attack. He is a deadly crosser and very forward thinking, so he might leave some space.
  • Jonathan Viera LW – Another fast player who primarily plays as a number 10 but will likely be replacing Boateng on the left wing. A very dangerous player on the counter.

2016.01.12 23:01 ThatGenericSoda I would like to introduce Sereldor, a small but important kingdom of my world. Please ask me things to help flesh it out!

I have been working on this world for quite a while, but all my thoughts about it are very scattered and uncompiled, I have probably forgotten more about this world than I remember. I am currntly trying to organize all my information about this world starting with Sereldor. I have created a very brief summary of important aspects of Sereldor and would be very grateful for any questions, no matter how specific or broad, that would help me organize my ideas and help my get everything written down. Thank you in advance!
Sereldor Founded: ~1100, Second age Monarchy, feudal lords
Map: the first map shows the known world, not including the explored part of the poles (these are very rough political maps only meant to show borders of nations) lands far to the west or east are unknown as no ships who have set out for these lands have ever returned, it is thought that these unknown lands are places of evil. The second map is a zoomed up view of Sereldor and its neighbors.
Crops: Peaches, wheat and other grains, apples, soybeans, potatoes
Domestic animals: Sheep, cows, horses, dogs, pigs
Trade goods: Iron, copper, salt, wood, wool
Major flora: Redwood, oak, cypress
Climate/geography: The kingdom of Sereldor is located in a temperate climate with dense forests and a large mountain range crossing the northern rim of the continent and rolling hills dominate the landscape. There are several large rivers, the largest of which fans out into a massive delta, making south eastern portion of the continent a marshland, seasonal rains and snows in the mountains provide a plenty of drinking water and lush lands for growing. Domestic animals such as cows and pigs are butchered for their meat, but most people rely on hunting for food.
Sereldor was founded in the middle of the second age (by human records) by human immigrants mainly from the once great Empire of Isaolde. Groups of settlers formed distinct tribes and weren't unified under Sereldor I for nearly fifty years. The Kingdom of Sereldor is the only human kingdom on the continent, but this does not mean they are without conflict. The kingdoms relationship with the semi nomadic Elven tribes that call the western area of the continent home have been tense at best. Wars, especially during the early centuries were common and countless lives were lost on both sides.
Current relationship with elves: Relations with the free Elven tribes are complex and often tense, while there has not been an all out war in nearly a century and nothing more than a small skirmish in nearly forty years, there is little trust between humans and elves, especially along the border of their nations although the current monarch of Sereldor hopes for a stronger relationship to be forged in the coming years.
City Elves:
"never trust an elf wearing the guise of a man" - a common saying among
Most of the larger cities in Sereldor, especially the Capitol are home to groups of elves who have come to live among humans. Be it from a period of Slavery or from genuine curiosity, the descendants of these elves live as humans do, but in segregated areas of cities and are largely treated as second class citizens. Because of old Hatreds and mistrust, most elves are not given work or fare wages, causing them to live in poverty, many elves are forced to turn to prostitution or theft to support themselves. These elves are a unique culture, not quite human but hugely different from the Elven tribes.
Slavery: Slavery is strictly prohibited in Sereldor and has been for almost two thousand years, anyone who comes to Sereldor from a country allowing slavery is required to leave their slaves behind, and Sereldor will not trade with several nations because of their stances on slavery.
The people or Sereldor vary greatly, but most common people range from slight to dark tan, it is clear someone is from the far north near the mountains if they are fair or pale skinned. Because of strong trade bonds and alliances with Meyas and Vara it is not uncommon among wealthy traders and noble houses to see dark skin and hair, especially in the south where trade with Vara is so big.
Sereldor is not in a warm climate, and the clothing of this country shows it. While Summer's can be warm, or even hot in the south, the weather usually ranges from cool to cold, wool is the most common material for clothing among the common person, with the occasional use of linen for more formal clothes. This is similar among the nobility of Sereldor, though many wealthy people will buy fine silks from Xiph or Meyas, heavy boots and cloaks of animal skins are common, especially during the sometimes harsh winters, especially up north where snowfall is more common.
Ornamentation is fairly important to Sereldorans, fine jewelry is often too expensive for all but the most wealthy, but wooden charms set with polished stones are common.
The abundance of wood has lead to the widespread use of it in art. Statues and carvings are common, and the use of wood in building outside cities is common, as are ornate carvings made directly into the architecture.
Wood is the most common material for building, and most roofs are thatched. Stone is more commonly used in large towns or cities where fires can cause more damage.
Even the smallest Sereldoran town has a ring shaped fortification made of earth and wood in the center of town. These ring forts contain grain and communal food storage for emergencies as well as a keep in larger towns to shelter citizens during attacks. In larger towns and cities, these ring forts are made of stone and contain a larger keep, capable of resisting a siege if needed. The entire old city section of the Capitol could be considered a massive ring fort, with a smaller fort containing the palace near the center.
Festivals: Festivals are an important aspect of Sereldoran culture and there are several major festivals.
Festivals of the seasons: celebrations of the changing of seasons are common from the smallest village to the largest city, they usually last one or two days filling the day with music, dance, and storytelling and end with a small feast and an offering to the gods.
Festival of Lights: twice a year, the sky lights up in a Fabulous display of twisting light and color (aurora borealis) this attributed o the gods favor, and times when the lights do not appear mean harsh seasons to come. These festivals heavily involve offerings to the gods and religious ceremony.
Harvest feativals: more common in farming communities, this festival takes place at the end of a harvest season, singing and dancing are accompanied by the sharing of food, drinking and a large feast.
Festival of the age: the greatest festival is the festival of the age, this five day festival takes place only once every two thousand years, and is a time of decedent celebration and merrymaking, with song and dance depicting the events of the previous age, culminating in a truly great feast on the third day, followed by two days or restful contemplation of the previous age and prayer for the next age.
Literacy is common among the merchant class and the more well off craftspeople. Among more rural farming communities, literacy is almost non existent, but usually one person in a family can read and were enough to interpret bills of sale and contracts. Clerks, bankers, and administrators are among the most literate and in more recent times, the noble classes have been required to have some literacy. Sereldor is a deeply religious nation, with a complex relationship with the gods of human kind. Most festivals and daily acts involve some sort of religious ritual and all professions have some sort of patron.
Magic: Sereldor is home to one of the largest academies for magical study in the world, the great mages guild. The guild welcomes magic users of any nation to study I. It's halls, but forces them to swear oaths that severely restrict the knowledge they are able to share with non guild members. The guild operates independently of the Kingdom, but follows its laws and provides magical serves to the crown free of charges. Most nobles pay guild members to serve as advisors in their holds.
Magic is widely accepted and rarely feared by most sereldorans, the somewhat strict administration of the guild and the oversite of other groups mean relatively little fear of magic being used against them.
Most guild mages wear masks to hide their faces, to prevent people from approaching them for magical services, and many mages charge quite heavily for their services.
The mages guild is split into several distinct ranks that govern their actions: Apprentices, the lowest rank these fledgling magic users are barred from leaving the grounds of the guilds tower without the express permission of their masters and can only leave with a higher ranking member of the guild.
Novice, apprentices who have gained enough control of their abilities to properly protect them self and others. They are able to come and go from the guilds grounds freely but must follow a strict curfew. They commonly travel to other holds with more experienced mages to learn real word applications to their studies.
Mage, the majority of guild members fall into this category. They can come and go as they please and are often paid to serve in various holds, or work as teachers in the guild. Once a Magic user. achieves this level they are allowed to leave the guild forever if the choose, but are still not allowed to teach much of what they know to non guild members.
Sage, the most knowledgable and powerful mages can attain the rank of sage, they make up the greatest kf teachers of the guild and serve as administrators, rarely leaving the guilds tower.
Mage knight, equal in authority to the sages, the Mage knights are very powerful mages trained in advanced combat magics as well as traditional forms of combat. They are skilled warriors and make up the guilds tower guard and the personal guard of the archmage.
The Archmage. The most powerful and knowledgable of the guilds mages, the archmage has ultimate authority I guild decisions and serves for life, choosing his or her successor personally and taking it upon themselves to train them once they are considered ready.
Other important factions:
The free companies: the free companies is a large mercenary group based out of central Sereldor. Their prowess in battle has earned sereldorans a reputation as mighty warriors and tacticians among their neighbors. The free companies are often employed to settle disputes between lords. The troop accepts all who wish to join, training them as equals regardless of social status, those with the greatest skill go the furthest.
The Paladin order: Founded at the dawn of the third age, the order of Paladins is unique to Sereldor, and its members are legendary the world over. The guilds origins are steeped in myth and exaggeration, but the prowess and skill of its members is very real. For nearly two thousand years the guild has protected Sereldor from the dark creatures of the world, hunting demons and dark mages and protecting those who cannot protect themselves. The orders numbers have dropped steadily over the course of the age as glory seekers hunt dangerous creatures and needlessly put themselves in harms way. The average lifespan of a paladin is not long. The order is now a shadow of its former self, senior members involved in petty politics and members are rarely seen, this has added to their legendary status and their abilities, while real, are largely exaggerated by the common people.
Sereldor has no standing army, most lords keep a small force of professional fighters some of which are knights but no large army exists.
During times of war, each hold is required to provide troops to protect the crown, these are usually peasants with little training, which are reinforced by professional fighting men and Knights.
Sereldoran Knights are known as fierce warriors, usually operating as battle commanders, heavy calvary or occasionally as foot soldiers. Knights are part of the noble class, and are usually the only soldiers capable of owning expensive armors and weapons.
Infantry are organized into square groups of fighters with spears or axes with troops of bowmen behind, these squares are reinforced by heavy Calvary charges.
Weapons of war: Spears: The spear is the cheapest and most common weapon used by Sereldoran soldier, most peasants can afford a spear and the ease of creating one and its usefulness in large numbers makes spear fighters an important part of Sereldoran military.
Axes: axes are almost as common as spears, many peasants work with axes felling trees making the weapon something most peasants are already accustomed to using. The inexpensive and brutal nature of the weapon also makes it common among the professional fighters or Knights
Swords: the straight arming swords of Sereldor are typically not used by nights or the more wealthy mercenaries and professional fighters.
War hammers: a weapon unique to Sereldor, the war hammer is brutally effective against armored opponents and is considered a "knightly" weapon like the sword. It is not as commonly used by Knights as a primary weapon, but some warriors are famous for using it.
The longbow: another weapon unique to Sereldor, the longbow turns unarmed peasants into a truly deadly force. Matched only by the Meyan laminate bows, the Sereldoran longbow can cut down enemy forces at a staggering range, and most peasants have been trained to use it to hunt. While it takes a lifetime to master the huge bows, they are the backbone of most Sereldoran military strategy.
Shields: round shields are used by most soldiers, but heavy Calvary typically use kite style shields.

2015.07.23 20:53 SgtRamen My Juvenile Understanding of Business is What Will Save Scrolls

Okay so listen up:
Pay anywhere from $0-$60 dollars to access the game. This includes the following: just the Growth Starter deck, all of the Starter decks, all of the cards currently released (as long as you pay $1-$3 monthly), entry into a tutorial immediately, a tutorial that is massive and disguised as a singleplayer campaign (assets for this to come out of thin air, whenever I have deemed it necessary), Ranked and Judgement matches gated behind $1 entries, prize payout in both cash and booster packs and gold and shards and sometimes just entry tickets to other matches, don't forget random scroll drops and can we please spice up that victory end screen just a little more? Once more? Thank you.
Also included will be in-game guild support where you put in any name you want and it tags you as that guild and moderators will stop people abusing this but also we should make it so you have to submit the guild tag and then only whitelisted members can use it. This will also include a revamped Store UI that features collapsable menus, every item in the store, increased gold prices and lowered shard prices, the ability to buy scrolls for money, new avatar pieces, the special top 25-50 avatar pieces (because otherwise it wouldn't be fair!), faster rotation times, purchaseable rotations for a fee, and a special Nog-themed idol.
Now, let's talk a minute about the game's UI. The UI will feature full status reports of all enchantments and positive or negative effects on units, including coloring them from Sepia (really positive stack of effects overall) to Blackwatch Plaid (very negative, such as 3 Languids or 3 Soldier's Bonds). This will also include a toggable pop-up of all status effects, and more music and sound and animations for every unit (at least two various idle stances for all structures please, they are so boring to look at!). Also if there is time (there will be), fully 3d rotation of the battlefield, for no reason other than their 90 second turn is taking forever and so you whip the camera around like a maniac, making people viewing your stream want to vomit. Also 75 second timers? Also make them chess clocks instead. Also take them out entirely and just give less gold the longer the game goes.
Now, I know what you're all thinking. Merch. Yes, we'll get to that. First things first: Custom sets. Let all custom scrolls and sets in, and create a highly sophisticated platform to allow creation of your own custom scrolls. Nothing too complex, just art, image, animation, sound, effects, traits, stats, and if it'll face left or right should do it. Nothing fancy.
Finally, (no not merch yet), there is one last overhaul needed. Remove Growth. Seriously. I can't tell you how annoying it is to play against Arbys when I am trying to get my MES going. Witch Doctor in particular is the worst of the bunch of that faction, as he can reduce his cooldown to 0 just by paying 3 Order. That's literally haste. EVERY. TURN. That is busted and should definitely have Armor 2 still, but maybe be Burn-able, but also don't do that because that isn't fair. Is there a structure that removes Unique trait from things yet? Add that one. I can't tell you how many times I've Somata'd into a Gravelock Raider only to have my other Sister of the Owl get destroyed. So frustrating. Luckily, it heals ALL damage now when it attacks, instead of just destroying all creatures like it did before. And structures take 3 magic damage. Taxing 2.
So, in conclusion, I feel like I am the MOST qualified to run the Scrolls 2.0 project, the New Game That Isn't Scrolls Scrolls Game, the Scrolls RPG, the Pen and Paper Scrolls Tabletop Game, Duelyst (a Scrolls Fan Game), and Scrolls 1.0, after the devs hand over the game to me via lots of money, a lawsuit, and from 1,000 of my friends buying the game via licenses in a Kickstarter. The Days until July 1st, 2016 counter is broken. The end.
Listen, guys, I'm not insane. If like, Carnalizer or Atmaz, or like, Squiddy, you know, any of the Mojangstas just sat down, for like, 10 years, in private, and hammered this bad boy out, we could play the game I REALLY REALLY feel like I didn't get $5 worth yet. You know? I'm just saying, it is what it is, and it isn't that hard to do. I can be the ideas guy, if we need to. Did you see my fan art? The alternate storyline in which Cay and Caera are both MOTHERS? There's some compelling stuff here.
NOW, ON TO THE FINAL POINT: Read the first letter of every sentence. ;--) Good day!
